XMAS BASH FUNDS NEAR MILLION DOLLAR ANNUAL DONATION

A December to Remember, one steeped in nostalgia, awaits revelers at X-mas Bash 2017, Saturday, December 9 at the Caribbean Cultural Center in Lauderhill, Fl, the organizers promise.

Expect an unparalleled fusion of vintage music and delectable food at Xmas Bash 2017 says Althea Brown Robinson, President of the Excelsior Alumni Association of Florida, as she and her organization are set to host the 15th staging of their annual signature fundraiser.

The wintertime soiree, under the theme retro 70s and 80s, promises an evening of pure fun, harking back to the disco era of the 1970 and 80s.

“We are delighted that we have received such overwhelming support over the years from fellow alumni and friends of Excelsior who patronize the X-mas Bash.” said the Alumni President, speaking on behalf of her organization,

Proceeds from the annual X-mas Bash has helped the Alumni Association to donate close to J$1 million each year to fund a range of projects at the alma mater.

For more than a decade, since its restructuring, the volunteer-driven Excelsior Alumni Association of Florida has made substantial financial contribution to support a number of initiatives at Excelsior High School in Kingston, Jamaica, as well as in the United States.

Among the array of projects supported last year were:

Economic Scholarships J$300,300.00
Penn Relays J$260,000.00
Olga Brown Scholarship J$161, 200.00
Lunch Program J$130,000.00
Taekwondo J$31,850.00
2 Tablets J$19,240.00
Total J$903,500.00

In addition, the Excelsior Alumni Association of Florida has remained fully engaged in the local South Florida community with donations to a number of causes including:

  • Kiwanis Of Lauderdale Lakes(CIJ and Journal) – US$350.00
  • Louise Bennett Literary Festival(cash and kind) – US $500.00
  • Susan Koman Cancer Walk -US$250.00
  • Jamaica H/School Assoc.(Labor Day Soccer) – US$750
  • Walkathon – US$50.00
  • New York Alumni Chapter – US $200.00
  • Calabar Alumni Soccer Tournament. – US$300.00

Total US$2,400.00

“Despite the challenging economic climate” Mrs. Brown Robinson said, “We are encouraged that so many individuals and companies have helped us continue to make an investment toward enhancing the future of children- our most cherished resource.”
