THE EAGLE EYE 2024: VOL 3 NO 2 | CHAMPS 2024 DEMARCO MINES GOLD

XLCR Eagle Demarco Bennett underscored his immense talent when he delivered a dominant performance in the Class 2 Boys 400m Final on Thursday at the ISSA Grace Kennedy Boys & Girls Athletics Championships. Running from lane 7, Bennett executed a well-planned race, powering past his two main rivals in the home stretch and completing the stadium oval in 46.91 seconds, setting a new personal best and school record. Gregory McFarlane, in his first year in the class, earned a valuable point for the Eagles’ #Top5 effort when he finished 8th in the race. Congratulations to both athletes.

Demarco will take to the blocks again later tonight (Friday) at 8:55 pm to compete in the 400m hurdles as he seeks the rare double.

Meanwhile, the Lady Eagles, in their quest for #Top5 status, had valuable contributions from Shelley Ann Taylor, who finished just outside the medals, placing 4th in the Long Jump Class 2. This was a great effort given her injury-plagued season. Also contributing to the Lady Eagles’ goal of finishing in the top 5 were Breanna Brown and Diandra Kelley, who both finished 8th in their respective 400m finals. The Lady Eagles are currently in 8th place with 23 points after 16 events.
